Definitions of Communications Buzz Words Today
Having trouble with some of the communications jargon you hear today? Wonder if you should be considering a new technology for your business or not?
This section is designed to be a plain-talk resource for you to browse and become more familiar with terms that are sometimes over-used in this industry. In it we have pulled together some common terms, given their definitions and added some recent articles pertaining to the terms. If you are interested, we can also share with you some real life customer experiences with the subject matter to give you an idea of how these technologies and tools can help you in your business.
Unified Communications: (UC) is a commonly used term for the integration of disparate communications systems, media, devices and applications into a single access point for the user. For example, adding incoming faxes and voice mail to your email inbox so that you only have one place to check messages. Call Centers, Order Fulfillment Centers, Sales Teams, anyone could benefit from tying together various communications methods to improve efficiency and productivity.
VoIP: VoIP refers to “Voice Over Internet Protocol”. VoIP is the technology of combining data and voice data over the same line for a unified point-to-point communication. VoIP users can realize savings by eliminating their traditional voice lines and in some instances lowering long distance charges.
Because VoIP uses your Internet data lines, networked calls can be made across the country or across the world, with no long distance charges by dialing the phone extension as if the call recipient were in the next office.
Mobile Extension: With Mitel’s “Mobile Extension” from HunTel Communications people only need call your office number. You “Call Forward” to whatever phone you want. If that phone ceases to be the most efficient option, you can reassign another number from wherever you are. You are also not limited to a specific cell phone manufacturer, technology or service offering.
Also, if a call comes in and you have not switched back to your office phone, both your office phone and cell phone will ring simultaneously. The call is automatically routed to the phone that is answered first. If you are talking on your cell phone and walk into your office, one touch of a button seamlessly transfers the call to your office phone.
Web Conferencing: With the Mitel “Your Assistant Collaboration Option” and Inter-Tel’s Audio & Web Conferencing, from HunTel Communications, web conferencing sets up in minutes and allows companies to make professional and impactful presentations for sales or service. Now with the capability of full presence, video communication and data collaboration, real-time communications are available from the office, the home or the remote mobile location of choice, all in a secure environment and without the nuisance of hosted, expensive, by-the-minute charges. The Your Assistant Collaboration Option removes the complexity, time and cost of a hosted web conferencing solution and ties the Your Assistant voice connectivity with full web conferencing and collaboration capabilities.
